A lot of potential moments worthy of a nomination for Celery moment this week!

You could argue that beating Spurs 4-0 at home is most definitely ‘proper Chels’ it being that we remain unbeaten against our ‘rival’s from North London since Gary ‘Big Ears’ Lineker scored a the winner for Spurs in 1990. Yes, that’s nearly 25 years ago folks!

photo9It could also be argued that Spur’s shambolic defending, which technically provided assists for each and every one of Chelsea’s 4 goals is worthy of a nomination. After all it was pure comedy and had us laughing our cocks off all the way home! Talking of Spurs, they’re support was equally shambolic – or shit if you prefer! Faced with yet another humiliation at the Bridge, it was clearly too  much for them to bear bless ’em. As soon as the third goal went in they were off. Was it a fire drill? I think not. This is customary for photo11Spurs so called support when on the end of a thrashing at Chelsea, last witnessed in their ‘Great Escape’ from Wembley after the 5-1 mauling we gave them a couple of years ago. The irony of them singing “Your support is fucking shit” as they streamed out was not lost on us! There were also rumours of a few of their hardy souls who actually managed to stay to the bitter end being chased down the Lillie road after the game. All together now: “Tottenham Always Running!!!”

And talking of support, it was arguably the best atmosphere at the Bridge for many a while. A loud rendition of most of the song book was in full effect, but our first nomination goes to friend of the show Mr Walter Otton, who as always made sure he enjoyed one of his all too rare visits to the Bridge these days to the max by leading the singing in the Matthew Harding Lower in an Old Skool style – back to the pitch, arms aloft, exhorting the Chelsea Faithfull to one more song. Walter we salute you!

IMG-20140308-00372The Matthew Harding end had a special message to the Spurs fans before kick off. Who better to remind that Chelsea are the “Only Team in London with a European Cup” than the very team we denied entry in to the competition by winning it in Munich. A huge amount of effort goes in to both producing and organising the Flags that appear in the Matthew Harding End, and massive thanks must be given to ‘Mr X’ for his generosity in financing them. Thanks too must go to ‘he who must not be named’ and  Dazza and Pablo of the Chelsea FanCast who make sure the flags come out and go back in at every home match. It is not an easy job as they will both tell you, but when it looks as good as the European Cup flag looked then it is all worth it. If you get pissy about a big flag going over your head before the game, have a think about the bigger picture (or flag) and the effect it has on both the home and the away support and stop being so bloody grumpy! For the beauty and impact of the Flag and for the effort that goes in to making them happen I suggest that it is a worthy nominee for this week’s Celery moment.photo10

Our final nomination this week goes to Samuel Eto’o. Let’s face it none of us really expected the octogenarian to do much for Chelsea this season. We didn’t really like him after the damage he inflicted on us as a Barcelona player; he also had some pretty nasty things to say about us, and well we thought he was past it and only here for his pension plan. But, he has been great. Not only does Samuel Eto’o dress like a don and celebrate like a warrior, he has now scored in some big big games – Liverpool, Man Utd and now Spurs. And that’s what big match players do isn’t it. What we didn’t expect is his penchant for comedy and all round general naughtyness. In previous games he has literally nicked the ball out of the keeper’s hand to photo1score and yesterday he picked Spurs pocket to ‘win’ a somewhat dubious penalty. This he follows up with a hilarious goal celebration clearly aimed at Jose for comments about his age. The old Man done well, and for that celebration he gets the nod for Celery moment. He could equally have been nominated for a hilarious moment captured on vine where he appeared to sniff up an amyl nitrate to get him going before the game – well it certainly worked. I have a feeling that even though he may only be here for one season, Samuel Eto’o may well become something of a cult hero at Stamford Bridge!
