Three very worthy nominations this year, and they would have to be to keep Oscar’s free kick against Stoke City or Brana Ivanovic’s winning goal against Man City out of the list.

But the first nomination is for a goal from our most consistent creative player of the season – Eden Hazard. In the home game against Newcastle Hazard scored a superb hat-trick. This goal was the second of the three. Willian passed the ball to Hazard on the left on the half way line. Hazard ran down the left towards the Newcastle penalty area and then played a one-two with Eto’o (who back heeled the return) before surgically poking the ball in to the right hand side of the net. Almost perfection and a superb celebration!

The second nomination comes from a surprising source. In the Super Cup final against Bayern Munich, we outplayed the European Champions for much of the match. Chelsea exhibited a flair and fluency to the game and scored first with an incisive counter-attack that was finished emphatically by Torres in the eighth minute. Hazard created the opportunity by committing Bayern defenders and leaving opponents in his wake. He swung the ball wide to Andre Schurrle whose instant low cross was volleyed unerringly into the net by Torres with the kind of decisive first touch that has eluded him for most of his Chelsea career. Superb goal whatever way you look at it.

The final nomination goes to the Eto’o goal – the opening goal of the 6-0 rout of Arsenal. Eto’o had a habit of scoring early goals but this goal was top class. Schurrle ran towards the Arsenal defence on the counter attack before passing somewhat inaccurately to Eto’o. Eto’o controlled the ball with his right foot before cutting inside on to his left, leaving Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on his arse in the process, before unleashing a superb shot curling inside the left post. Classy goal.
