Plenty of moments to make us go ‘ooooooohhhhh’ this season, but after discussion on the Chelsea FanCast #288 the boys have come up with the following nominations:

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s best (arguably only) Chelsea player this season. He regularly gets nominated in the weekly Guinness Moment section of the show as a result. He gets two nominations in the Guinness Moment of the year.

The first for his exquisitely executed ‘rabona’ in the win against Fulham away. Quite a few players can do a ‘rabona’ – even Brana Ivanovic! But there are very few who can do it with such effortless style and grace as Eden Hazard.

Hazard’s second nomination goes for his dazzling run at home in the second leg of our Champions’ League tie against Galatasaray. He ran from inside his own half beating Galatasaray players for fun, seemingly more than once on occasion before getting to the penalty area and passing. A shame perhaps that he couldn’t finish it off, but the run and his ability to beat players, at speed, often leaving them on their arse with twisted blood was a wonderful sight to behold. There is nothing like a small player who can do this – he is thePetr-Cech-2-675x425 kind of player who will get supporters out of their seats, and in my case go ‘ooooohhhhh’. Pat Nevin was a player who could do this as those lucky enough to have seen him play will remember. They are to be cherished!

For many the next nomination might be a surprise, but to those who know their football it will be appreciated. Petr Cech has been back to his very best this season – no doubt benefitting from a stable defence in front of him. What marks out the great keepers from the also rans is their ability to pull out a magnificent save having had little to do. The best keepers do this and more, often saving or keeping their team in the game with a world class save near the end of the match. This is what Petr Cech does routinely, and few could be more important than in the Quarter Final of the Champions’ League when Chelsea had just scored a goal that would see them through to the semi-final. I had a great view of this as I was in the Shed End and it was a breath-taking save.  I can’t even remember who he saved from, but the save itself will linger long in the memory, not least as it ensured we went through to the semi-final.

The final nomination is for Willian’s brilliant cut back to beat two Atletico Madrid players near the corner flag, and then manage to pass the ball perfectly to Cesar Azpilicueta who then passed to Torres who scored to put us one up in the tie. We all felt that we were going to Portugal at that stage, but sadly it was not to be. Nevertheless it was brilliant vision and skill from Willian. Many players would have just played for the corner, but not our young Brazilian – it doesn’t matter whether you have two or three hairy arsed defenders on you when you have the skill to do that!

If you want to vote for the Guinness Moment of the Season then all you have to do is vote below.
