Results of the Safe Standing Survey for Chelsea Supporters

024 Safe StandingThe Chelsea Supporters Trust is pleased to announce the results of the Safe Standing Survey for Chelsea Supporters, jointly conducted with fellow Chelsea supporter organisations, websites, fanzines and podcasts, to gauge the attitudes of Chelsea supporters to Safe Standing at football grounds and at Stamford Bridge in particular.

Over 96% of Chelsea supporters surveyed are in favour of implementing Safe Standing at Stamford Bridge with 90% stating they would consider buying match tickets in a Safe Standing area at Stamford Bridge.

Among the headline figures, 91% of participants believe the introduction of Safe Standing will improve atmosphere at matches while 98% are more likely to attend games at the Bridge or continue their current attendance.

Through its distribution via Chelsea websites, podcasts, fanzines and matchday leafleting the survey elicited 4,329 respondents, 88% of whom are match-going supporters with good representation in all areas of the stadium.

Tim Rolls, chair of the Chelsea Supporters Trust, commented:

“We’re delighted to see that the results of the safe standing survey are very much in line with those carried out recently at other Premier League clubs and with over 96% of respondents in favour it is clear that a considerable number of Chelsea supporters back the introduction of safe standing at Chelsea.

The response rate of over 4,300 and the level of interest shown in the Safe Standing Roadshow which several hundred fans attended in April clearly shows that safe standing is seen by supporters as a progressive step that will enhance the atmosphere at games and the match-going experience at Chelsea.

We call on the Premier League to overtly support the trialing of safe standing in English football and to put pressure on the relevant authorities to allow this to happen.”
