EIGHT Chelsea players in need of a loan next season

Chelsea are a loaded squad with quality depth at just about every position. With that being the case, there are often players that won’t break into the squad as a result.

Often times, it can be beneficial for those players to get solid playing time elsewhere to enhance their future with Chelsea. Players like Tomas Kalas, Wallace, and Thorgran Hazard have already been loaned out to various European clubs for the upcoming season, and more can be expected.

Here are EIGHT Chelsea players that are in need of a loan for next season.

Josh McEachran

McEachran burst onto the England footballing scene in 2010, when, at 17, helped lead England to the U-21 European Championship. He was then considered one of the top young talents in all of Europe, and the midfielder was said to be a sure thing for a lengthy career in England. The now 21-year-old has been a part of Chelsea since 2001, when he began his youth career with them. He has appeared in 11 games for them since 2010 when he was signed to a contract to the senior team.

Fast forward to 2014, and McEachran has struggled to find his footing, having the last two and a half years on loan with four different clubs. If he ever wants to live up to his massive potential (and expectations) a loan elsewhere may still make sense.

Christian Atsu

The 22-year-old winger was signed by Chelsea in 2013 after he broke into football with Feyenoord as a youth and then FC Porto’s senior team in 2011. He spent last season on loan at Vitesse of the Dutch league.

With the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard, and Andre Schürrle manning the wings for Mourinho at the moment, there isn’t much playing time for the Ghanaian international at Stamford Bridge. After scoring five goals and adding six assists last season, he could find himself on loan again this season. Celtic are reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Nathan Aké

Another product of Feyenoord’s youth academy, Aké was signed by Chelsea in 2011 at the young age of 16. Now 19, the Dutchman was promoted to the senior club during the 2012 season. He was named Chelsea Young Player of the Year after the 2012-2013 season. He can play either midfield or defense and has appeared in seven games in his first two seasons with Chelsea.

He recently signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea that will keep him with the club until 2018, so Aké certainly appears to fit into Chelsea’s plans going forward. But nothing is certain, however, so he will need regular playing time if he wants to do so and he won’t be able to get that barring injury this season. A move elsewhere would be advisable for him.

Marko Marin

Marin has failed to impress since joining Chelsea in 2012, appearing in just six Premier League matches. He arrived after a productive career in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, but the 25-year-old German international has since fallen out of favor in Mourinho’s eyes.

He spent all of last season at Sevilla without scoring a goal in 18 La Liga matches and does not factor into Chelsea’s plans. They have recently been offered £4m from an undisclosed team for his services, and it could be a matter of time before he ends up being elsewhere on a permanent basis. In the meantime, however, a loan move would be wise for him.

Victor Moses

Moses is quite the success story, having immigrated to England at 11 from Nigeria. He caught the eye of Crystal Palace scouts that same year, and joined their youth academy. He eventually made his way to Wigan in 2010 before Chelsea signed the then 21-year-old in 2012.

He appeared in 23 games for the Blues, but the winger has failed to consistently stick in the regular squad. He spent last season on loan at Liverpool and, like most players, will want to get first-team experience in hopes of securing a regular spot with either Chelsea or someone else in Europe.

Marco van Ginkel

The 23-year-old midfielder began his career with Vitesse in 2010 before securing an £8m move to Chelsea three years later. Having suffered a devastating knee injury last September, van Ginkel was forced out of action for six months, a major stunt in his development.

Now that he’s healthy, Chelsea are hoping van Ginkel will be ready to contribute after the Christmas fixture pile up, as the midfielder is a hard working, box-to-box midfielder. A loan move for the first half of the season would benefit him and keep him in game shape to prepare him for the latter half of the season with Chelsea.

Oriol Romeu

Romeu joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2011, and was expected to make an impact following the 2012 summer departures of Yossi Benayoun, Michael Essien, and Raul Meireles. Instead, the 22-year-old defensive midfielder (who can also play centre back in a pinch) has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

He spent last season on loan with Valencia, appearing in 13 matches for the La Liga club. Chelsea have been looking to add another midfielder, and are linked with just about everyone in the word. Romeu doesn’t appear to factor into Mourinho’s short- or long-term plans.

Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand, a left back, is another example of a quality player that just doesn’t appear to fit into Chelsea’s plans. The 24-year-old has been with Chelsea since 2005, when they snatched him from Gillingham’s youth academy.

He debuted with the senior team in 2010 and has appeared in 28 matches with Chelsea since, having spent time with six different clubs on loan. Now that Mourinho has confirmed the signing of Filipe Luis to man left black, coupled with Cesar Azpilicueta’s ability to play on either the right or left side, Bertrand may be the odd man out once again. A loan move could help boost his profile going forward for a possible permanent move elsewhere.
