FIVE reasons Chelsea should be all-in for Toni Kroos

Chelsea have already been hard at work this offseason, signing former La Liga stars Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas and letting midfielder David Luiz leave for Paris Saint-Germain.

There is more work to be done at Stamford Bridge, however, and Chelsea have been actively looking to continue upgrading its attack.

One possible move that many have speculated about is Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, the German international who is fresh from World Cup glory.

The 24-year-old is likely to leave the Bundesliga before next season, and is expected to move to a new club in the days following the conclusion of the tournament in Brazil. Chelsea and Man United are reportedly at the top of his list.

Despite reports surfacing that Kroos announced that he would join Real Madrid next season, there is still time for Chelsea to swoop in and snatch him up. Here are FIVE reasons why Chelsea should do all it can to bring him to the Premier League for next season.

Playmaking

Kroos is widely regarded as one of the top midfielders in the world at the moment. He is an adept passer and is able to fit balls into tight windows for his teammates.

He has recently drawn praise from midfield legend Paul Scholes for his vision and passing, while the former Man United star added that he is also capable of scoring goals. Kroos put that aspect of his game on display during the World Cup as well, chipping in two goals in the 7-1 semifinal rout of Brazil. He finished the tournament with two efforts and four assists.

Wages

Arguably the biggest reason that Kroos is looking to move on from Bayern Munich is that the German club refused to meet his wage demands of roughly €150,000, a figure that would represent a significant upgrade from his current wages of just over €85,000.

Chelsea were reportedly looking to pay Kroos £125,000, a figure just slightly over what he asked Bayern to pay him. That may seem like a lot, especially given what they will bring on after adding Costa and Fabregas, but consider that Kroos’ Germany teammate Sami Khedira just agreed to join Arsenal and will earn £150,000 per week at Emirates.

Selflessness

One of the beautiful things about players switching from one big club to another is they come with experience in playing with other stars. While at Bayern, Kroos was joined by the likes of Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, and many more, and the Germany side he has played with is just as talented.

Kroos has featured prominently with both, so playing with Eden Hazard, Costa, Fabregas and Oscar should not be too difficult. Besides, what star wouldn’t love playing with a midfielder known for getting other players the ball in space?

Age

At 24, Kroos is still developing his talents and should continue to grow for a few years. While his position of central midfielder is quite taxing on his body, we have seen other players like Scholes and Andrea Pirlo play it at a high level well into their 30s.

He will grow into his own just as some of the other Chelsea players do, as Hazard, Costa, Andre Schurrle, Oscar and Thibaut Courtois will all enter next season under 25.

Experience

Despite his relative youth, Kroos has loads of experience playing at the world’s highest levels. Since 2012 alone, Kroos has been a part of two Bundesliga championships, one UEFA championship in 2013, and now a World Cup championship.

That would mark as a pretty good career for most. With Chelsea hoping to get back on top of the Premier League in Jose Mourinho’s second season in charge, Kroos already has the kind of winning experience and mentality it takes.
