And the nominations are:

Didier Drogba, Captain for the night (over and above Petr Cech) and playing his third game in a week at the age of 36. And the best and most committed player on the pitch. He used all his nous and experience and scored the key goal and put a real shift in. He led the team well and the 1st goal was crucial and Drogs scored it – they had to chase the game after that and got lucky with the equaliser – the game was basically over at 1-0 in reality.

Nathan Ake has impressed in every game he has played this season. He is fully committed in the tackle (although a bit rash in picking up a yellow card) and does not shirk from the physical side of the game. He also has skill and desire in abundance whether defending or going forward. He looks a bit like Ruud Gullit, and if he carries on and reaches his potential who is to say that he might not reach those dizzy heights of one of the games brightest talents.

Oscar, was one of the few Chelsea players who played with the heart and desire and skill that he would pull out if it was a Champions League semi-final. So much for fancy Dan foreign players who don’t want to play on a cold rainy night in Shropshire, Oscar is made of sterner stuff and looked the most likely to open up their defence. Impressive performance in the circumstances and more than pulled his weight. Like the lovely Sophie Rose, I love him!
