International duty beckons for Davide Zappacosta.

The 25-year-old has made three appearances for the Blues this season, which included that indelible solo goal against Qarabag, and now his efforts have been rewarded with a call-up to Italy’s national team.

Zappacosta’s previous call-up to the national team was enforced by injuries to existing members of the squad. However, our Italian defender has earnt his place in the national team following impressive performances in a Chelsea shirt.

Despite having only played three games, the Italian has already demonstrated his capacity to be influential at either end of the pitch. While fulfilling his defensive duties, Zappacosta is composed and measured, yet he’s also displayed his willingness to drive forward and affect the game in advanced positions – as was adequately shown by his spectacular goal against Qarabag.

When the former Atalanta defender joined the Champions, he was a relatively unknown player, yet in his brief Chelsea career, he’s displayed his capabilities to compete at the highest level. There’s certainly more to come from Davide!
