What have we learnt? Five talking points from Chelsea’s stunning victory against Manchester United

Oh, what a night!

Following the disappointment and the chaos that Chelsea’s defeat to Roma had engendered, the Blues responded in the best possible manner with a sensational 1-0 victory against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

The Champions dominated the game – particularly in the second-half – with Kante, Bakayoko and Fabregas dictating proceedings at the heart of the pitch. United failed to exert any sense of control over the game, and, in truth, a Chelsea goal looked inevitable.

Thankfully, Azpilicueta and Morata’s telepathic relationship was reignited to conclude the striker’s six-game goal drought. Dave produced a perfectly weighted ball into Morata who expertly guided his header beyond the reach of the hopeless David De Gea in the United goal.

Considering the number of opportunities that the Blues had crafted, the scoreline could have been extended, yet Chelsea demonstrated sufficient strength and solidity to secure the three points.

• The 3-5-2 works!

As was demonstrated in our terrific 2-1 win against Tottenham, the 3-5-2 formation is exceedingly useful against the more significant opposition. Our midfield trio of Kante, Bakayoko and Fabregas dominated the midfield battle, and United was unable to contend with vigour and strength that the Blues displayed.

• N’Golo Kante is world-class

The return of our dynamic midfielder had an infectiously positive impact on the performance of the team.  His presence allowed us to dictate the midfield battle and he was typically relentless in his work.

• Andreas Christensen was faultless

Since returning from his loan in Germany, the Danish defender has performed heroically. Whenever he’s been called upon he has impressed, today was no exception. The 21-year-old is regarded for his exemplary composure and his remarkable technical ability; both attributes were evident against United.

• Morata’s back

Before today’s game, the Spaniard had failed to score since returning from injury. Much to his – and our – delight, the Spanish forward scored a marvellous header to conclude his six-game wait for a goal. As was illustrated against Atletico Madrid, the 25-year-old exhibited his ability to thrive and score against the reputable opposition.

• Luiz’s precarious situation

David Luiz was axed from the matchday squad, despite being present at Stamford Bridge. It is conceivable that the story will progress in the forthcoming days, yet initial signs suggest that the impassioned Brazilian has argued with Conte. Here’s hoping that they can resolve their differences.
