A statistical look: Chelsea’s top 3 performers against Manchester United

We’re taking a statistical look at things…

Having experienced a period of rejuvenation over the course of recent weeks, the Blues failed to maintain their form as they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The defeat now leaves Chelsea positioned fifth in the Premier League table, two points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who occupy fourth place and six points short of the Red Devils in second.

Chelsea took the lead thanks to the in-form Willian. The Brazilian seized upon Eden Hazard’s pass, and he produced a magnificent strike past David De Gea in the United goal.

However, as has been the case in big games this season, the Blues were unable to maintain their lead. Former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku equalised for Mourinho’s side before Jesse Lingard secured victory with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

We’ve decided to use Whoscored to determine Chelsea’s best three players against United.

#3 – Danny Drinkwater

The Englishman scored a rating of 6.9 with the statistics website. Drinkwater replaced Fabregas (who started against Barcelona), and he produced a solid display at the heart of the pitch. The 27-year-old completed six tackles and flaunted a pass completion rate of 81%. He also registered one shot and completed one dribble. A decent afternoon for Drinkwater.

#2 – Eden Hazard

The Belgian was at his magnificent best once more, and he achieved a rating of 7.9. Hazard assisted Willian’s goal, and he flaunted a terrific pass completion rate of 92%. Additionally, the Belgian playmaker completed four dribbles and registered one shot. A typically productive afternoon for the 27-year-old.

#1  – Willian

There’s no surprise that Willian was our best player. The 29-year-old scored his fourth goal in three games, which increased his total to 12 goals for the season. He achieved a rating of 8.5, having completed eight dribbles and he championed a pass completion rate of 81%. A good afternoon for the Brazilian.
