The Spaniard admitted that he shouldn’t have played with pain.

In a recent interview with Movistar, cited by Metro, the 25-year-old revealed that he regrets playing with an injury earlier in the campaign.

The former Real striker, transferred to the Blues in the summer for a reported fee of £58M. Monday night’s victory against West Brom signalled the Spaniard’s first involvement since being sent off against Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup in January.

However, the forward has returned to full fitness, and he faces competition for his place with the arrival of Olivier Giroud.

To date, the striker has amassed 32 first-team appearances, scoring a total of 12 goals. He’s been most proficient while playing in the Premier League, flaunting a total of ten goals in 21 games – almost achieving a ratio of a goal every two games.

Here’s what he revealed in his interview.

‘He is the one who bets on me and that’s the truth,

Chelsea is a big club, a club that has given me the opportunity to play as a starter, to grow even more, it’s a team where I’m very happy, where I started well until I had some physical problems.

I made a mistake in that respect as I played with pain [earlier this season].

I went through a poor spell where I missed important goals, but I wasn’t well physically and mentally.

I have to grit my teeth and do all that I can to return. We have the Champions League tie [against Barcelona].’
