Rumour: Chelsea lead the race to sign Luke Shaw

Chelsea are allegedly leading the race to sign Manchester United’s out-of-favour left-back, Luke Shaw.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are willing to make a move for Luke Shaw in the summer transfer window – it is believed that Chelsea are the favourites for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Shaw, along with the rest of his family, are Chelsea supporters, and the former Southampton defender has grown disenfranchised with his treatment at United.

The Englishman has been publicly criticised on several occasions during his career as a Red Devil, and he was substituted at half-time during United’s 2-0 FA Cup victory against Brighton.

Even if Shaw doesn’t leave Old Trafford this summer, he would be able to move on a free transfer at the end of next season as his contract expires in 2019.

While considering Marcos Alonso’s form and the recent arrival of Emerson Palmieri one would think that it is unlikely that the Blues would make a move for another left-back.
