In an interview with Omnisport, cited by the Metro, Ruud Gullit has revealed that he thinks that Conte can save his job at Chelsea if the Blues beat Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Dutchman managed Chelsea between 1996-1998, and he was in charge for 83 games during that two-year spell.  As the club’s player-manager, Gullit won 41 games, flaunting a win ratio of 49.4%. Most famously, he managed Chelsea to victory in the FA Cup final in 1997 becoming the first foreign manager to win the competition.

Antonio Conte has received criticism from the press in recent weeks, and they have continually reported stories saying that the Italian manager is primed for the sack. However, Gullit has revealed that it would be challenging for the club to sack Conte if Chelsea were to beat Barca.

The following quotes are from the Metro.  You can read the rest of the interview here.

‘If he gets Barcelona out of the Champions League, then it will be very difficult to replace him,’

‘He knows that, he knows also that the championship in England is difficult now to get. They know that as well.’

‘Manchester City have now won the EFL Cup so they have the confidence, it’s hard for them to lose any points [in the Premier League] … So the best thing is to focus yourself on the Champions League.’
