Thibaut Courtois is here to stay… for now
As the Telegraph reports, Thibaut Courtois has insisted that he’ll still be a Chelsea player next season, despite the fact that his contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Since displacing club legend Petr Cech, as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, the Belgian international has played a pivotal role in two title triumphs. Additionally, he was a part of the team that won the League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2014/15 season.
That said, his future at the club is far from certain. As previously mentioned, the 25-year-old’s contract expires at the end of next season, where he will be able to depart the club on a free transfer.
With that in mind, it’s conceivable to suggest that the Blues will sell Courtois in the summer if they fail to extend his contract. He is valued at £54M by transfermarkt.
However, in a recent interview with Sporza, cited by the Telegraph, Courtois is adamant that he’ll be with Chelsea next season.
“I have one-year contract (remaining) and feel good at Chelsea.
“At the end of the season, we will sit down together. I live there quietly and know that I will be at Chelsea next year as well.
“If I go to the World Cup with a clear idea, sign or wait another year, my mind will be clear at the World Cup.”
