Marcos Alonso has been charged by the FA for his tackle on Shane Long.

Chelsea’s 3-2 triumph against Southampton was a tale of an extraordinary comeback, and it was one of the rare occasions that the Blues have displayed character and determination in recent weeks.

Unfortunately, the coverage of the game opted to focus on Marcos Alonso’s challenge on Shane Long. Admittedly, the foul was worthy of a red card, yet Mike Dean was in the perfect position to observe the incident but chose not to discipline the Spaniard.

Subsequently, as Mike Dean has professed to have missed the challenge, the left wing-back has been charged with violent conduct by the FA. If the 27-year-old accepts his punishment, he will be absent for our league trips to Burnley and Swansea. Additionally, he will miss the semi-final of the FA Cup against Southampton.

Here’s hoping that Emerson Palmieri is given his opportunity to shine in a Chelsea shirt.
