The Spaniard is set to receive retrospective action for his challenge on Shane Long.
Olivier Giroud stole the headlines, as the experienced French striker inspired a stunning comeback against Southampton. The Premier League champions were trailing the hosts by two goals before Antonio Conte opted to introduce the 31-year-old.
Giroud bagged an impressive brace – scoring with his only two efforts of the game. Eden Hazard also fired home his 16th goal of the season, as the Blues scored three goals in the space of nine minutes to secure a much-needed victory.
However, the triumph has been slightly overshadowed by the press’ reaction to Marcos Alonso’s challenge on Saints striker, Shane Long. Many pundits, such as Alan Shearer, believe that the Spaniard will face retrospective action for the incident.
As they say, every cloud has a silver lining, and Alonso’s probable suspension could give Emerson the opportunity to display his worth to the Blues. The 23-year-old has only registered three appearances for Chelsea since joining from Roma in the January transfer window.
