Chris Bradford discusses the news of a rejected bid for Courtois.

Chelsea has reportedly rejected a £35 million bid from Real Madrid for Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois, 26, has one year left on his contract at the Club and looks set to depart in the near future following a breakdown in negotiations. Courtois had also been waiting on compatriot Eden Hazard to commit his future to Chelsea prior to signing an extension. Signing an extension is also reportedly dependent on Head Coach Antonio Conte’s future at the Club, with Courtois reluctant to sign if Conte remains at the helm.

While Chelsea underperformed in the League, finishing fifth, Courtois had a respectable domestic campaign: notching up 15 clean sheets in 34 Premier League appearances. That said, the Belgian came under intense scrutiny following two mistakes in Chelsea’s 3-0 last-16 second leg defeat against Barcelona.

Courtois is valued at €60 million, equating to £52 million so surely £35 million is a derogatory offer, even with one year on his contract remaining? Should Chelsea cash in on the Belgian this summer or let him leave on a free in summer 2019?
