Chelsea in talks for Vecino

After weeks of speculation and rumours following Maurizio Sarri’s arrival, Sky Sports have confirmed that Chelsea are in negotiations for Inter Milan midfielder, Matias Vecino.

Vecino, 26, is a Uruguayan international, having made his debut in March 2016 against Brazil. Vecino has amassed 27 caps for his country, scoring once against Trinidad and Tobago.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan only moved to Inter from Fiorentina last season for a reported fee of €24 million. Vecino signed a four-year-contract with the Nerazzurri. In 29 Serie A appearances, Vecino scored three and assisted three. His first goal for Inter came in a 3-1 win away to Roma at the Olimpico.

Vecino is familiar to ‘Sarri-Ball’, having worked with Chelsea’s new Head Coach at Empoli, along with fellow Chelsea target Daniele Rugani. During the 2014/15 season at Empoli, Vecino was not really prolific as he only scored two goals whilst assisting three times in 36 league appearances.

Inter reportedly value Vecino at £32 million but his potential arrival raises doubt regarding the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Vecino’s addition would mean another number in the midfield and plenty of competition for places. Surely, Chelsea fans would want to see Loftus-Cheek stake a claim and maximise his potential at the expense of yet another midfielder?
