While reports have circulated sighting Maurizio Sarri’s willingness to reduce his squad size, one fringe player could be given a lifeline at Chelsea. There’s a possibility that Lucas Piazon could stay with the club for the remainder of the season.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, as reinforced by the Daily Star, AC Milan were interested in signing Lucas Piazon having missed out on the signing of Quincy Promes from Spartak Moscow. However, it’s reported that Sarri was unwilling for the 23-year-old to depart, as he wants more time to assess his options. If Piazon impresses Sarri, then the Brazilian could stay with the club this campaign.

The 24-year-old has only attained three senior appearances for the club, and he missed a penalty in our 8-0 triumph against Aston Villa in the 2012/13 season. He has been discarded to five different clubs on loan during his Chelsea career, scoring 30 goals in 147 games. Most recently, he helped Fulham attain promotion to the Premier League.

One of Piazon’s primary strengths is his versatility; he can operate as a winger, an attacking midfielder or as a striker. Such adaptability could prove to be beneficial for the club with our congested fixture list.
