It is bad, but rather inevitable news, as it has now been confirmed by A.C. Milan that Chelsea targets, Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara have now signed for the Serie A club.

Higuain, 30, signs for Milan on an original loan but Milan have the option to purchase the Argentine international for £32 million at the end of the season.

Caldara moves to the San Siro in a swap deal which sees Leonardo Bonucci, 31, return to Turin.

Both players underwent medicals on Thursday.

Missing out on Higuain leaves strikers Álvaro Morata, Michy Batshuayi, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham all vying for a place in the starting line-up. With regards to potential departures, Olivier Giroud could leave for Marseille, with talks planned with the club following his extended holiday.

20-year-old, Tammy Abraham could also depart Stamford Bridge as per The Mail. Aston Villa are reportedly interested in the England international. Last season, Abraham was on loan at Swansea City, scoring eight goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

One striker who is set to remain at the Bridge is Michy Batshuayi. The Evening Standard reports that Head Coach, Maurizio Sarri sees the 24-year-old Belgian as a critical part of his plans for the upcoming season. Hence, Sarri is keen to block any advances made for the Belgian amid potential Valencia interest. Batshuayi spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, scoring seven goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances.
