Everton have reportedly signed Chelsea target, Bernard, on a free transfer, report The Daily Mail.

Bernard was set to join AC Milan but it has been reported that manager Marco Silva’s personal intervention helped secure the deal.

Chelsea had set Bernard a deadline until Tuesday so they could pursue alternative targets should the Brazilian opt against a move to Stamford Bridge. AC Milan were seen to be the frontrunners to sign the Brazilian with a rough agreement already in place. It was expected that Bernard would be on around €3 million per year.

London rivals, West Ham were also reported to be interested in the Brazilian. However, as per The Guardian, new manager, Manuel Pellegrini decided to look elsewhere after baulking regarding Bernard’s demands of £200,000 per week.

The 25-year-old winger made 158 appearances in all competitions for Shakhtar after signing from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro for a fee of €25 million. During his time in Donetsk, Bernard scored 28 goals whilst making 35 assists. Bernard is a full Brazilian international, making 14 appearances, scoring one goal in a friendly against Honduras.

It is a blow to Chelsea as Bernard was a low-risk potential signing, especially as he was a free transfer. Will Chelsea regret missing out on Bernard? Who should Chelsea target now with time running out to secure their signings?

Let us know.
