Although the media will regularly remind you that we are yet to win a game this season (after two/three games!), I feel incredibly positive and optimistic about the year ahead.

Here are some early observations that cover things that certain media outlets won’t…:

Atmosphere

Although I missed the first home game against Leicester City, I was fortunate enough to have a ticket to Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season. Fortunate you say? But you lost 4-0 they say… Yes, and don’t get me wrong, there’s some obvious frailties in this Chelsea side, but the positive feeling around the place is just as infectious as the negativity of years gone by. If I’m being honest, there were times last year when the atmosphere was so negative that I felt I was going more from duty than pleasure. It’s early days, but that now seems a long time ago – the demand for tickets this season has been unprecedented, even for the fixtures that might have been far less appealing last year.

Twitter

Some things don’t change… Same sh!t, different year. Some practical advice to ensure you can continue interacting with fellow Chelsea fans on the platform, whilst blocking out the majority of the idiots. Create a Twitter list. It’s an old-school method, but it allows you to select who you want to see tweets from. I have around 200 Chelsea accounts on there and it really minimises how much crap you see from people who chat nonsense… Try it, it makes the place much more tolerable.

The Yoof

Finally! Hurrah! Opportunities for our youngsters have been the few and far between over the last 15 years, but Frank Lampard has certainly made a statement of intent with his selections so far. Patience is key – we’re going to lose games… Accept that, and you’ll see players develop. The one thing that’s certain, the fans at Chelsea will give those players (and this manager) time. The same was the case for RLC and CHO last season. We, as fans, love to see our own youngsters develop. The likes of Mount, Abraham and Tomori will have our unconditional support through this ‘bedding-in’ period. Let’s just hope the club give Frank the same.

2019/20 has the potential to be an incredibly enjoyable season. But, remember (this year more than most)… Win or lose, up the blues!

KTBFFH.
