“Slam Dunked” – Chelsea FanCast #484

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, straight out of The Athletic to reflect on Chelsea’s Transfer Ban being lifted; look back at the 3-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday and ahead to Tuesday night’s final Champions’ League group match against Lille.

Special Announcement: Some of you may know that John Whitehead (aka @donjoninglesias on Twitter) passed away last week. What many won’t know was that he was terminally ill with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a ferocious lung disease. Despite this John never let this dull his passion for his family, life & love of football.

Although born in Spain, he was raised within a goal kick of Stamford Bridge & this began his life long love affair with his beloved Chelsea, whom he followed over land & sea (& Leicester) for 6 decades. John’s last game was Lille away in his wheelchair & struggling severely with his breathing he cheered on his team to victory. As a fitting tribute to this young father & husband, a “True Blue” a minutes applause on the 57th minute on Tuesday against Lille is being organised.

When discussing this, John’s wife Kathryn said, that if he was here today, he’d say “that was the best thing to ever happen to him in his life”! So as only Chelsea can, let’s give John a “Proper Chels(ea)” send off that his family can remember please!

On the show tonight we kick off proceedings to discuss the ramifications of the Transfer Ban being lifted. Should Chelsea buy & if so who & what? And how will this affect youth development?

In part two, we look back at the loss to Everton and discuss the lack of physicality and poor finishing and the woeful defending and ask with 3 defeats in the last 4 matches what does Frank have to do to turn it round?

In part three, we have the Parish Notices, a look at the weekends Who Knows Wins match prediction league and look ahead to tomorrow night’s Champions’ League match against Lille.

In part four we read out this week’s emails.
