So it proved, although in many ways a typical Chelsea season of the time with the infamous 6-0 thrashing away to Rotherham being balanced by knocking then European Champions Liverpool out of the FA Cup.
All set against a background of ferocious football violence leading to the attempt to ban Chelsea fans (“You Can;t Ban a Chelsea Fan”) and the club so broke it couldn’t pay the players!
