Continuing our series ’50 Years of Chelsea’ looking back, season by season, from the FA Cup winning 1970 season to present day; Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Dan Silver to look back at the 1981-82 season.

With John Neal now ensconced as Chelsea manager, can he lead the team back to Division One or was this to be a more transitional season? So it proved, although in many ways a typical Chelsea season of the time with the infamous 6-0 thrashing away to Rotherham being balanced by knocking then European Champions Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

All set against a background of ferocious football violence leading to the attempt to ban Chelsea fans (“You Can;t Ban a Chelsea Fan”) and the club so broke it couldn’t pay the players!

Clips from the ‘Chelsea Special‘ interviews with Gary Chivers, John Bumstead and Colin Pates, who all played for Chelsea this season, on the Rotherham game, the Liverpool and Spurs Cup matches and the club being broke.
