Petr Cech 7

Was on form until his unfortunate injury, ending what has been another consistent, good season from the Czech stopper.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

Stuck to his brief well for the most part although lost one or two headers and wasn’t his assured self going forward.

Gary Cahill 9Man of the Match

Bossed Diego Costa, winning nearly every aerial duel that came his way and took on the leadership role at the back when Terry went off. Made a point blank headed block to deny Costa late on.

John Terry 8

Like Cahill, was having an excellent game until landing awkwardly on David Luiz. Hopefully he’ll be fit (and Chelsea will get through) so that he can make his first appearance in a European final since Moscow.

Ashley Cole 8

“The Beard” barely put a foot wrong, making you wonder why he hasn’t been used more often this season to rest either full back.

David Luiz 6

Played the “destroyer” role in the central midfield three well, harrying Atletico players whenever they came into his area.

John Mikel Obi 8

Not asked to do much, bar make sure that no Atletico players got in behind him, quite often dropping into the back four to add extra aerial presence. Cleared everything that came his way.

Frank Lampard 6

Frank seems to reserve his best performances for Europe these days, where the slower pace suits his all round intelligent style. Constantly aware of danger while being one of the better players in possession, Lampard only lost a mark due to being very close to receiving a second yellow on more than one occasion.

Ramires 5

For a wide player in a 4-1-4-1 Ramires played a lot closer to his own goal than Atletico’s and while he tracked his full back well the Brazilian lacked the nous to cause trouble in the opposition half, on one occasion notably making a hash of a good position to fire a cross-cum-shot that was neither a cross nor a shot.

Willian 6

Not given any help when in possession, Willian did what he could and helped ease pressure with several good runs and touches past opposition players.

Fernando Torres 6

As isolated as I’ve ever seen a striker in Chelsea blue, Torres worked hard and indeed managed to engineer a couple of threatening moments when on the ball. But we’ve seen enough of Torres to know that he wasn’t anywhere close to finding a way past his former team’s defence or his current team’s goalkeeper.

Substitutes:

Mark Schwarzer 7

Made a couple of good saves and claims from crosses, although made one mistake when punching short a clearance.

Andre Schurrle 6

Schurrle fulfilled his role, diligent with his defensive positioning while using his energy to good effect in closing down the opposition.
