Good riddance?

Following three productive seasons as a Chelsea player, Diego Costa’s coveted return to Atletico Madrid has been officially confirmed today.

In 120 appearances for the Blues, Costa scored a total of 59 goals, and he proved to be an instrumental figure as we won the league twice in addition to our League Cup triumph in the 2014-15 season.

While there is no doubting Costa’s quality and valued contribution to Chelsea, his career as Blue was certainly not devoid of controversy.

Due to his antagonistic and physical approach, the 28-year-old was always subjected to media scrutiny. Thus Chelsea as a whole was subjected to media scrutiny.

There were times in his career in West London where Costa was unplayable; opponents were powerless to resist his powers such as our indelible 3-1 victory at Manchester City. There were also occasions when the Spaniard looked entirely disinterested and struggled to find his best form.

His status as one of the Premier League’s most lethal and combative strikers is irrefutable; it’s a shame that his career at Chelsea ended in such disarray.
