Davide Zappacosta has expressed his intention of emulating the legacy that Italian club legends like Gianfranco Zola and Roberto Di Matteo have achieved with Chelsea.

Despite having only made three appearances for the Blues since his deadline day switch from Torino, Davide Zappacosta is eager to rival the impression and contributions of Italian club legends such as Zola, Di Matteo and Vialli.

The 25-year-old has been very impressive during his brief Chelsea career, and I was fortunate enough to witness that wonder strike he produced against Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League. While he is conceivably behind Victor Moses in the pecking order for a starting RWB spot, the Italian is eager to make a meaningful contribution to Chelsea.

Here’s what he told the Chelsea matchday programme.

“I’ve noticed there is this long tradition [of Italian players at Chelsea], I just hope that, like my predecessors from Italy, I can make my mark at Chelsea and win some trophies. That would be a dream come true for me.”

“I am convinced I am well suited to the style of football in England, probably even more so than Italian football. There is more space because the intensity is higher and the game is much quicker, so I can look to exploit that.”
