Emerson Palmieri is a blue!

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Emerson Palmieri from Roma for a reported fee of £17.6M. Throughout the January window, the Italian wing-back had been linked with a move to the Blues, and the club have finally confirmed the deal.

Emerson joins the club on a four-and-a-half-year deal, and he’ll wear the number 33 with the Blues. Coincidentally, he wore the same shirt at Roma during his time with the Italian club.

During his time with the Serie A, Palmieri amassed 47 appearances for Roma scoring two goals. He began his career with the Brazilian side Santos, and he also played for Palmero briefly before joining Roma.

The arrival of Palmieri was expected in light of the decisions to allow Robert Kenedy and Abdul Baba Rahman depart in the January window. Additionally, it means that Marcos Alonso finally has competition for his position at left wing-back.

Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaia spoke about Emerson’s arrival to chelseafc.com

‘We are delighted to welcome Emerson to the club. He is a young and talented player who strengthens the squad and will provide excellent competition for places as we pursue success in three different competitions.’
