This is certainly an unexpected transfer rumour.

According to the Metro, both Chelsea and Manchester United, are interested in the services of Barcelona’s Jordi Alba. The left-back currently has 18 months remaining on his contract with the Catalan giants.

It is reported that the 29-year-old, who is valued at £54M by transfermarkt, has yet to be offered a new deal by Barcelona. Alba is regarded as one of the most potent full-backs in world football. The Spanish defender provided 12 assists in 48 games for Barcelona this season.

Nonetheless, it’s difficult to comprehend why the Blues would need Alba unless Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri are leaving. The former has established himself as a crucial component of Chelsea’s team over the past two seasons, and Emerson has displayed glimpses of excellence since joining from AS Roma in January. Accordingly, that would make a prospective move for another left-back redundant.

What are your thoughts? Should Chelsea challenge United for Alba? Let us know!
