The Blues have seemingly lost the race to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

As the transfer window fast approaches, it seems that the Blues have missed the opportunity to sign one of their reported targets.

According to the London Evening Standard, Manchester United have won the race to sign to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld. It is reported that Chelsea are one of several teams interested in signing the experienced Belgian defender. However, the Red Devils are allegedly prepared to offer the centre-half more money than PSG, Barcelona, and Antonio Conte’s side. It is believed that United will pay £40M for his services.

Given the uncertainty that surrounds David Luiz’s immediate future and the fact that Gary Cahill is ageing, it seems probable that the Blues will strengthen their defensive ranks in the summer transfer window.

Interestingly, the article states that Chelsea are interested in signing Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles, and the 24-year-old is the Blues’ priority in the forthcoming transfer window.
