Chelsea reportedly lead the race for Juventus striker, Gonzalo Higuain, report The Mirror.

Higuain, 30, is surplus to requirements at the Juventus Stadium following the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Ronaldo signed a four-year-contract in Turin in a €100 million transfer.

Whilst speaking to Sky ItaliaJuventus CEO, Giuseppe Marotta commented that the Club was ‘evaluating his future’ due to the greater competition in the attacking department, following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Corriere Dello Sport reported on Tuesday that Higuain would prefer to stay in Italy, so a move to Milan seemed more likely. Higuain would move to the San Siro along with fellow Chelsea target, Mattia Caldara which would see Leonardo Bonucci return to the Juventus Stadium. Bonucci ended a seven-year affiliation with the Old Lady by signing for Milan last summer for a fee in the region of €42 million.

Despite the player’s preference to remain Italy, Chelsea have moved ahead of Milan after it was revealed that the London club would offer the 30-year-old £120,000 per week. Milan submitted an offer which would see Higuain earn in the region of £80,000.

Should Higuain make the move to SW6, it would see him re-unite with Maurizio Sarri, who coached Higuain at Napoli. Under Sarri, Higuain scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances during the 2015/16 season which saw him earn a €90 million move to rivals, Juventus the following season.
