Man of the Match: Chelsea v Galatasary Tuesday 18th March

Some decent performances all round, although in truth Chelsea never really had to get out of second gear against opponents who surely must be among some of the poorest we have faced at this stage of the competition.

Frank Lampard had an excellent game and displayed his customary delightful short and long range passing. He also played responsibly in the deeper lying role, whilst making some intelligent late runs in to the box – being unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get on the scoresheet. It seems that the slower pace in European football seems to suit Frank perfectly.

Hazard buzzed around all night like a bumblebee on crack. He set up the first goal with an exquisite chest pass to Oscar, and made some dazzling runs and passes. The only thing he lacks sometimes is a more clinical finish otherwise he would get the goals that his build up play certainly deserves.

Our final nomination goes to Eto’o – arguably the most effective Chelsea Pensioner of all time! With each game it becomes more apparent that even if his legs do not have the pace of a younger striker, you only need it over 5 yards, and you can’t beat great movement and a world class strikers finish. You also can’t beat his huge experience and intelligence. He is a classic big match player and if you look at the crucial goals he is scoring for Chelsea this season his signing has been a great success.
